Doing this from a real subject and having a lot of trouble. Maybe once I start coloring and shading it will miraculously turn out OK.

I think I'm going to move on to a new drawing. I can't make this look the way I want. I should probably stick to tutorials for now as I've had much better luck with them and I have a lot of learning to do.

I like the way the chair came out and the candle is growing on me but the dish:surprise: I just colored it in.

So here it is.

I think you did a fantastic job on the candle! It is very realistic.

I do tutorials all the time and they have taught me so much. Sometimes I feel a little guilty like it is cheating or something, but that usually passes quickly, and no it definitely is not cheating it is being smart and learning from a teacher.

I'll usually do a tutorial and then do some originals....the tutorial always has better composition and gets better responses. But my originals are getting better all the time. I know it's just a matter of time that I won't be needing to view the tutorials any longer.

The best thing you did here is, you did it! Practice is how we accomplish improvement. Do not let your attempts discourage you, learn from them. I would suggest before you jump off this horse do it again then compare.

Have you tried blind contour drawings? They are a great way to "see" your work with more details and perspective.
