I quite like my latest portrait but I feel something is wrong with the eyes and I can't put my finger on why.

Any thoughts?

Oh I measured those eyes against the original photograph repeatedly. I have an excel spread sheet to determine the size ratios based on the width of the head at the ears between the painting and the photo. I even printed them out at a size to match the painting. I might be a a bit obsessive

Sorted. Not enough shadow I decided.

I agree, not enough shadow which makes the face appear flat on the value scale.

I think it's the proportions, both eyes need to be larger and also the distance between them needs to be slightly smaller.

You're still missing the shadows that describe the shape of the eyeballs ( corners of the whites) and the eyelid crease shadows too which on the photo are quite deep and really should get a lot of play with some very dark values.
