I'm a hobbyist painter, just learning, but getting better with each try (at least I think so). Since I'm painting just for the love it I tend to do a lot of it. Since last May I've painted over 70 paintings. Many of the early ones ended up in the dumpster, but since I'm getting better I can't bring myself to do that anymore.

I have 25 of them hanging in my home, I've given several away to friends and family, and have actually sold 5 to friends (for a very modest sum). But I still have a closet full of canvases (and getting more each week) that I don't know what to do with.

Any suggestions?

I have not a clue but it is an interesting problem. It's not like too many sketches. I'm interested in the answers you get.

Hey, I have the same problem though I don't paint as often, still I paint more than I'm able to sell. So I mostly paint on canvas board because it takes less space than stretched canvas.

A solution

Well today I have a solution. I took all my pictures that were in my closet to a popular second hand store here called "Fleas and Tiques". It's a really nice place, not a low life flea market. The owner was happy to take my paintings and is going to go through them and display those that he feels he can sell.

Cool Huh. I paint just for the love of painting not to sell and I don't expect to make anything off of my painting, so this is just an ego trip for me and I'm enjoying the ride.

Well, I think, as long as it covers the expenses it is great solution.
At the moment, I am collecting my works, what use will it be, I don't know. Maybe I apply to academy

You are young enough and talented enough to be very successful Wook. For me it's a hobby and just for fun. I don't even care if I cover expenses since I don't mind spending money on myself in my old age. Getting old isn't all bad.

Sometimes I have that problem too. I used to have the odd garage sale and sold a few, along with other crafty things I made and plants. It's a lot of fun and your work becomes familiar in your community and you make a little money. It can sometimes be sad if no one wants some of your paintings at any price, even the ones you consider to be your best. You can also donate them to a fundraising auction at the SPCA or some other worthy charity. I like the thrift store idea!

But approaching an online site sounds much better.
As its their work and our sale and income , sure they have their some percent of sale , but the target is larger than what a garage sale can have

I've been kind of thinking about making an online web site. I think it would be fun to do, but I'm not really expecting to sell anything so I don't want to spend money on a web site. I might look into one of those free ones if they still exist.

Gotta ask - what's wrong with flea markets? I love 'em. Spent the last six months with a booth at a local selling vinyl wall art and other vinyl products. The end of March was my last weekend, but I made a few dollars and had a lot of fun.

Flea markets aren't a great place to sell art, but, like any other product, if someone finds value in it they'll buy it.

I don't see any reason to discount any venue for displaying/selling what one creates.

You know you are right, why discount flea markets, some are very nice. It's just that I'm not too interested in doing a flea market bothe myself, however this store is a quaint store with a single proprietor so I was able to just turn the pictures over to him and let him handle everything.
