Hey there all. I am currently making my living as a portrait photographer, but wanting to transition into being a professional fine artist. My question is this: Is it going to be detrimental to do a broader variety of art, or am I best to specialize. I feel my strengths lie in abstract and macro nature photos using cyanotype developing methods. But id really like to do other things as well, drawing, painting, abstract sculpture etc. Will I be shooting myself in the foot to being doing too many things?

My advice would be trying anything that strikes your fancy, you will naturally gravitate towards what interests you the most. Never limit yourself. Just be honest with yourself, you will know if you have taken on too much.

I'm guessing you have contacts with some art reps that you trust. I would discuss this with them and get their take on how the market is trending. Then make up your own mind ... what might work best for you.
