Paint thinner for house used in Oil painting.

I haven't mustered enough money to buy linseed oil or a mineral spirit. So I used the paint thinner I found. It's a paint thinner used for house paints, is it okay or the painting will eventually turn yellow?

I do not paint with oils, so haven't tried it.
