As odd as this may sound, I was commissioned to design some voodoo dolls for a friend of mine. The only problem I am having so far is designing the heads. He doesn't want the typical burlap sack heads. He wants them to look like they were carved from wood, clay, or stone.. They also must have a dark tone to them. Does anyone have any tips on how I can achieve this. Any ideas will be helpful. Questions, feel free to ask me!

Hope you post a 'work in progress' thread as you make the VooDoo Doll. I know some people I would love to have a voodoo doll of:vs_smirk:.

What are you making them out of? I have seen some interesting figurines and dolls with ceramic heads. Maybe something like sculpy or an air/oven fired clay can somehow be attached?

There are thousands of methods on how to make a voodoo doll...but if your client wants them to look like they were carved out of wood/clay then I would just use wood or clay lol ...and use the "cross" method that is make a cross out of wood/clay and work from there.I'll post some pics of what I mean.Now,I dunno...those dolls are only for display or for real rituals?If they are for ceremonial purposes then you should follow the correspondences and see what colors.materials to use for X/Y purpose.

PS:you should go to some occult/magick/vodou/etc forums/groups for better instructions.There are plenty of voodoo/hoodoo groups on FB.Not only they are into that path and know all the ceremonial things that go with making of the dolls but probably better craftsmen too.

Go to yer local box store builder supply & look in the paint section under the putty ares... Spackle & all that. They offer a plasticized filler that is basically mud with latex added. About 4 bucks. You could create basic head shapes, let dry & then adjust as needed by carving or sanding. Then imbed whatever by dry drilling holes, glueing, etc. Kinda like clays but not so weak. No baking. You can also use foam chunks for the center & coat with the stuff for an exterior.

Had another thought... at 4AM! Jeeze. Anyway, I got some white modeling clay at Wallymart a month or so ago. Just to test its possibles. Turned out to be a surprise. Airdries, no cracking or shrinking, gets hard & not at all easy to damage. Sandable, paintable. In the kiddie area of the "arts dept." Its not earth clay, which they also had.

Well, first I'd make it clear to your friend that abusing people through dark magics might not be the best way to go about problem-solving.

Maybe using driftwood of some sort? That usually has this nice, rough texture. Or treebark, easier to come by and also nicely rough.
