As always with my figure studies, the hands and feet are woefully neglected. I find the torso, back or front, wonderfully complex and so I seem to focus on that more than the whole figure.

What are your favourite subjects to sketch?

I'm a novice when it comes to drawing --- in fact you might say a pre-novice. But I love to paint and in order to paint you need to draw a picture, so I'm learning. I'm sure I will never do any drawings as wonderful as yours, but in answer to your question I find that drawing people and animals from the back comes out a hundred times better for me than drawing a front view where I have to deal with a face.

I've been drawing the figure for almost a year now, but it's only really the last 6-7 months where I've been really focused on it. I studied (very basic) anatomy and repeatedly drew muscle groups which furthered my understanding of the body.

I have full confidence that if you put in the time and effort you will be much more capable than I. It's just repetition, repetition, repetition. Even now I struggle with faces, and sometimes end up having to leave them out!

Same thing for me Terry.. When I make a drawing.. it always looks better from the back.. I just turn the paper over once finished.. and it's WAY BETTER! ROTFLOL!

Nice work but careful not to outline. Try drawing line through the body. Proportion looks good. I don't get why hands and feet are so scary. They obey the same logic as the rest of the body. Just use a sharper pencil. There are shortcuts to them. I can send you a few I have learned if you are interested. Email me if you are. Nice work.

I have just started my foray into drawing the human figure, and have actually started with the feet and hands in order to get the feel for them first! I've started with the skeletal and muscular system as well, but I do find it somewhat frustrating...the human figure seems so intimidating to capture as a beginner, but I'm excited at my early progress. your sketches are beautiful; backs are my favorite views because of the light shifts and shades of the skeleton and muscles through the skin. I am practicing the drawing skills as well, in order to paint the human figure - painting is where my preference lies, but I want to get the basics down of both the figures and drawing them.
