Trying to define art is like trying to bag a barrel full of eels. It's slippery and refuses to be confined. I thought I had it when we had the discussion about cave art. At that point I thought art was something that happened when you used the right side of your brain.
And now a paper napkin that I wipe my brushes on has caused me to question that. I don't know how to put a link in to that thread, but it's titled "Unintentional Art" under the category "Watercolor and Gouache".
So what do you all think? I mean, what is art, anyway? We know it when we see it, right? Well, everyone would surely not agree to that. The example of a banana taped to a wall was given, lol. Does ANYONE genuinely see that as art, or is it a case of the emperor's new clothes?
What the heck is art, anyway? I keep looking at that paper napkin and thinking that if I framed it and hung it on my wall, I would enjoy looking at it every day.
