Hi I'm Jamie 22 from Essex.

I've signed up because I really want to get into drawing properly, I've always believed you are born to draw but I keep getting told this isn't always the case.

Currently I'm in the " can't draw to save my life category "

I have no idea where to start.

Hi jamie! :welcome: to the forum! well..you can start by grabbing a pencil/pen and a paper then observe the things around you..even the simplest things can be a great start..

You can also Google "how to draw a _______" and find lots of basic things to draw, just to start out. Each person has their own style....you will eventually find yours.

Anything that you feel like you want to draw...I started back then drawing landscapes or seascapes 'cause of my mother when she was the one who did my art assignments back in grade school :vs_blush: (lols)

People is born to be good at some things, that's right, but if you weren't you can always be as good as them with the correct effort ^^

Hmmm why don't you try to draw a dog? I guess you will find a lot of help in the internet (I don't have any Idea if it's easy or not >.< but I guess it's a good start ^^ )

The place to begin is to put your pencil on paper. I know it sounds trite.. but the only way to learn to draw.. is to draw! Above all - HAVE FUN!

Don't be afraid to post what you have done. I only started painting 15 months ago at the young age of 66.:vs_blush: The pictures I did at first looked so juvenile, but the folks here guided me from YUCK to WOW. Best move I ever made to advance in my painting was to join this group.

Don't be afraid, and David is right, don't forget to have fun ^_^
As for what to draw, try one thing and if it doesn't work try another, and definitely post your stuff here, the people are great here, they all have great advice :biggrin:

Jaime, in the beginning, don't feel like u need to go out and spend a bunch of $$$. One of the best pencil drawings I have done, was sketched with a papermate pencil. I'll attach it, so u can see. :wink:

I'm also an absolute beginner. I made the mistake to buy too many books of drawing. I also think the best source is the internet, for example on wikihow.com are so many tips. The site was a big help for me.
I wish you good luck and not so many depressing phases like I have!
