So what are we considering Mixed Media?

YAY - amazing how quick the Admins did this. OK so we now have a Mixed Media forum....would you consider a painting that has both Acrylic and Oil on it as a mixed media? Or would that be still just oil because on the finished piece it is only the oil that is seen?

I think oil and acrylic are too similar to be considered mixed media.
If it were water colour and oil, used in distinctively different ways on a piece, then sure.
True mixed media (IMO) would be completely different media, e.g. colour pencil with a collage or marker pen and poster paint.
Collages are usally mixed media, often involving the use of paint as-well as paper cuttings or photos.

At least I think so. :)

IMO (which along with $1.50 will get you a 7-11 coffee) anytime you use 2 different medium in the same finished picture it's mixed media. This does not include using graphite for drawing a sketch before you paint... since the graphite doesn't directly enhance the finished picture in any way. Neither would an undersketch of graphite in a pen drawing for example. But in my drawing of "Solitude" I used Graphite, Pen, and some white Acrylic paint for the highlights.. This would be mixed media.

Again this is just my opinion..
