Idea, create a section for competitions, where EVERYONE is a winner (people don't have to win) or.... how about 1 person wins by way of Votes and the winner chooses the next subject topic :angel:

I have a few things on my plate at the moment but this sounds like a great idea. They do something similar over on the WC forum. This might be a good opportunity to do something creative! How long will we have to work on it?

I think that's plenty providing everyone is free to work on them. I sometime go a week with hardly touching a brush. I hate it. Can't wait for retirement.

I sometimes get a block and don't paint for 3 months!
so a comp with a short limit might motivate people to paint a bit more

This site is a site all about competitions like you are talking about. I use to frequent it, but stopped because there was some hard porn (though infrequently) that I didn't want to be subjected to. I was thinking that if you didn't know about you might want to give a look for ideas.

Definitely like this site the best. I stopped visiting Ourartcorner months ago. I just thought it might give some ideas of how to handle a competition thread. But then I guess it be better we do it our own way anyway.
One of the ways competitions are held in Ourartcorner is the first picture that gets 8 votes wins the competition no matter how long the competition runs. A person can only vote 1 time. Personally for us I think we need to cut it down to like 5 votes because we are a small group. If we have 3 paintings to vote on it could take from 5 to 13 people voting to get a winner. Maybe the time limit would be a better idea.
Even though I do consider good photographs amazing art we should not have photos competition with drawings and paintings. The photo would win every time for sure.
And then there is level of experience to consider. Is it fair to have a young person like FanKi competing with an accomplished artist that has been at it for 40 years like Sorin? It would put the voter in an uncomfortable situation. One can be good for their level of experience but no where near as good as someone that has made a living at it for decades.
Personally I feel the only person we should be in competition with is ourselves.

Everyone is a winner isn't a competition. It would be for fun, with everyone working on the same subject matter. Set a day to show our work.

I think the "no vote" is good simply because everyone is at a different level. It could easily discourage those who aren't quite as far along in their progress.
Having said that.. I LOVE the idea of everyone a winner! Perhaps someone could just suggest a topic to paint/draw.. and then each person could have a week (or 7 days if you prefer) to submit your work. We can all enjoy one another's work on that particular subject.
We could get Cricket to make a forum where there would be 1 post/week.. with the topic.. and all of the draws go inside that post. Could be a lot of fun.

Do you think it would be OK to post an old painting you have done that is on the topic? I sometimes take longer than a week to finish a painting and I have paintings in almost everything you could think of.

No... I think we should try to do something quickly for this. I also think we can learn from doing these quick works because we would have to think different. There may be some good skills to learn from it.
