Today I'm going to do something different. A still life in acrylic, just black and white, and then color it with an oil wash. I got instructions from my favorite instructor Wilson Bickford on how to do it. I'm excited about trying it.

Today is a ho hum day so far. Trying not to let little things bother me.

Headed to work in a few and hopefully complete my drawing today! Would be very excited about that.

Oh my am I ever anxious for spring. Maybe I will post some of my spring/summer photos in the photography forum. That one is lacking a little..not much posting going on in that.

Today has not been my day..lol..when my kid fell on the floor in a puddle of cry for no real reason that should have been my first clue.

I can't wait to vent my frustrations on my drawing..that always makes me feel a little better.

Life lessons. My words of encouragement today are - even if things look bleak..don't give up.

My drawing had a whoopsie (that is all that needs to be said on that)..so the only real way to fix it was to darken the background..which I was initially not happy with. As I started however I realized that I was learning from this mistake. I am being forced to go darker where they need to be darker and lighten the light - the result is becoming a wider range of values that I actually think, once the background is in and everything done, I will like more.

I think so too now that I am doing more and darkening on the horse and him and evening out the background a little more. I still have a long ways to go but this will (I hope) turn into a happy accident. It doesn't always turn out that way.

Well I tried out the technique of using an oil wash on top of a black and white acrylic painting. I did this quick and not carefully and I screwed up the background but in general I like the effect and I'm sure I will use it in the future.

I like this! You did a great job with this. Quick or not it is still a very nice piece.

Thank you. I'm sure I'll be using the wash technique on other things like background to my portraits and to give extra color to flowers. The wash dries very quickly for oils. The picture I did yesterday is already dried.
