Good Morning! What are you all up to today? How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

Woke up to a good amount of snow this fine New Mexico morning. I am sure the kid will want to go build a snowman today. I will get pictures when I feel up to going outside. Right now I am content to sip on my coffee, sit in front of the fire and play on the computer.

Got some pretty heavy critique last night from a non-artist..critique on work that hasn't even been completed (or started) yet. She said I needed to fatten his hands and fix his left eye. I asked her why I would fatten his fingers? He doesn't have fat fingers to begin with and besides, I haven't really even started drawing those yet. Her response was..at least she was being honest. How about be honest when the drawing is closer to being complete? You can't critique my outlines in my opinion...unless they are way off base and honestly I don't think they are.

Anyhow. I hope you all have a great day!

Busy day today

I have my granddaughter Athena visiting this weekend and in a little while my three other granddaughter's will be here. So it's going to get a little wild as always. No painting today. I may let the girls do some painting. I have walls covered with their art work on them.

One thing about painting, at least for me, is that I'm always afraid of ruining the picture. Like that last picture I did of Athena. I'm not happy with her hair but I'm actually afraid to change it because I've ruined so many pictures by attempting to fix them. It's like an inner battle...kind of like the old cartoons with the devil on one shoulder and an angle on the other whispering in my ears. Devil -- 'The hair sucks' Angel -- 'It's not that bad you mess with it you will make it worse', Devil -- 'If you don't fix it every body will think the hair sucks and that's all they will notice.' ---Angel "You're painting just for fun, so what if it's not perfect." etc., etc., etc.

Chanda I hear you about harsh uncalled for criticism. Helpful criticism is so useful and that's what I've been getting on this site, but sometimes I get slammed almost cruelly by people who just want to bring me down and criticize just for the sake of saying something.

LOL You should have them join you! I got my kid a sketch book and learning to draw books and he draws along side me (as long as his attention span permits). Have fun with them today!

I used to be afraid to ruin a picture but sometimes it's the most difficult and challenging pictures that teach you the most. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone!

Yes I actually embrace criticism but when it is not asked for and it is regarding something I haven't even worked on..eh. I think one of the best ways to advance is to get somebody else's perspective on your artwork..especially when it's done by another artist! This place has been wonderful for my art I have to say.

With all that fur he/she can handle the cold. I'm so ready for spring! Four little girls in the house today is driving me nuts, but it's too cold to let them go outside.

So how are we going to work this? Are we going to put a new chat up for each day? Or each week? When a thread gets long and you have to page to the end to add a post it's a little bit of a pain.

LOL. I am ready for spring as well. Our soccer season starts in exactly one week. I am hoping things clear out and warm up soon!

I think a daily thread would be easier to manage though I have seen it done weekly and monthly..up to you. :)
