School's once again in session and once again it is almost time for the Homecoming Parade! Naturally, I fall into the role of lead designer, lead creator, lead painter, and lead assembler of my class's (and for some reason everyone else's) float. Well, anyways, this year's theme is movie genres. My class has science fiction. They wouldn't let me include the Rocky Horror Picture Show anywhere on the float, but so help me, a giant Cthulhu will be what leads my class! :D

This giant wad of newspaper is your Lord of Insanity.

By the time I'm done with this thread, he will be a full-blown flying squid-man and I will more than likely be in some serious artistic trouble with the school for giving small children nightmares.

I have until October 7th. I'll update when I can.

Hopefully at least one of you out there will find this cool or inspiring. Enjoy the ride!

I know I will. :)

If you squint your eyes, you can see a squid's head starting to take shape. I tightened up the edges and expanded it some.

I have to spend the next few hours working on a history essay but I'll be back with another update tonight.

I neglected to mention that you have to cover your good eye while you squint. It also helps to stare at a light for 30 seconds too. Lol. Oh, I'm expecting so many late nights this week. It was already 2 when I started the wad! But don't worry. Having shaky hands will only make using an x-acto knife more interesting!

Rounded out the head a little more and added an eye socket and a half before I ran out of masking tape. I'll have to take more for tomorrow.

The trick to seeing the octopus with this one is to spin around a few times before you look at the picture.

Managed to get this far during school, then I came home and took a 4 hour nap. Ouch.

Anyways, I tightened his head up even more, gave him more of a cranium bump in the middle of his head and then made it even longer (which you can't really see). Next I'm going to accentuate the eyes and then add the tentacles later on. Something tells me that I'll have a lot of awake time between the hours of 1 and 4 tonight.

Thanks everyone! I'm pretty excited too. After I get the tentacles done, it will just be a matter of making his body and getting him balanced after I add the wings.
... and fitting him in the car. He just keeps growing and getting harder to transport. But that's a concern for another day.

I have the first layer of tentacles on. Just 9 more to go!

All 13 tentacles attached. Now I get to spend the next 2 hours working on homework, then 3 more finishing those up before I have to get ready for school. With any luck, I'll start the body tonight too.

I've got him taped to a barstool to make working on him slightly less awkward. I can sit under him instead of having to hold him upsidedown. I feel sorta like a mechanic working under him like that. (I won't show any pictures of that out of respet for Cthulhu and his cloaca.)

Thanks! Heheh. I kinda want to stab it too, but for different reasons.
Don't know if I'll get him done in time. There's no doubt in my mind that there won't be time for me to make Bigfoot or a mermaid and unfortunately my hairiest friend has work that day, so I think most of my half of my science fiction double-feature is missing. At least there's still the ET Phone Homecoming float.

Anyways... Here he is now. Head finished, but he needs color.

I don't know if I'll be able to finish his body before Friday. There was talk of turning him into a human puppet but... here he is in comparison to my little sister. I do not want to be responsible for anyone's chronic neck pain.

Here's his body thus far. Eh. I had a special helper put it together while I napped. I really don't think I'll be able to get the entire thing done and balanced in time, but we'll see.

Next up: Arms and wings.
I'll post when I can.

Thanks all! Sometimes it's nice to put that talent to the test. Everyone ready for a picture overload?!

Okay, Here was his headless body.

With head.

With the head, he began to fall forwards. No wonder.

Here he is after full-body paper macheing.

Something happened with the lighting on my phone. This isn't how green he is, I just thought the picture looked cool.

At this moment in time, I still have to finish the wings.

I was supposed to do that last night except I fell asleep working on history homework and as such am also running late for school right now. But, just because my priorities are so backwards...

The ET Phone Homecoming FLoat thus far:

I'm glad you found it so amusing PMI! So I added that too.

Okay. I've got 5 more hours to highlight his body, fix the balance, and finish the wings. Wish me luck.
