Hi,
My name is Penny. I am mostly self taught artistically, although I was able to enjoy a few modules while taking a degree in English (pottery, Fine art, textiles and Graphics) some 17 years ago. They were not really teaching how as much as expecting results and an ability to record your process. Some how I did well, but don't have the foundations.
I started painting properly just under a year ago and some how have managed to produced a few pleasing paintings, but as I progress I am becoming more and more aware of my lack of knowledge and youtube has really helped me to fill in some of the blanks, where I believe interacting with other artists will be a lot more helpful in order to achieve some of the things I want to do. For instance until recently I didn't know about using washes or how to thicken or loosen paint for different effects.
I would also say that through experimentation I am still working on finding what suits me best and what works best for me. I am enjoying this process, although it is definitely trial and error, as often you don't know why something won't work until someone tells you and artists can be reticent to talk for various reasons.
So... that's me and where I'm at and I really do hope this place is friendly and hopefully at some point I may be able to help someone in the way that I hope I may be helped now.
