: Artistic Plagiarism or Homage?

Hello, I am new here and I am looking for a bit of advice from the more well informed artists here. I've run into somewhat of an artistic dilemma.

I have been illustrating a comic book I eventually plan on selling. There is a page in the comic where a girl's soul is leaving her body and I illustrated it in a similar manner that well known new age painter Alex Grey originated and is known for. I am a big fan of his art and I can't think of a more graphically interesting and just plain awesomely cool looking way to illustrate this subject/scene...

While I've changed the medium used, the pattern, the colors, and overall look of the tunnel of eyes it is obviously not my original idea but I just can't think of any other way I could illustrate this to have the same visual impact.

So my dilemma is do I just forge ahead and admit to my self that I have stylistically plagiarized and am paying homage to Alex Grey (and write a thank you for inspiration in the footnotes? ), or should I abandon this and start over?

Is what I've done legal? Could I run into trouble here?

I've posted the images in question. Thank you for any and all advice in advance!

No ones ideas are truly their own but your illustration comes very close to the original and could be deemed questionable. I would explore more on this piece and truly make it your own. When in question it is better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks George! I appreciate your comments. I just don't know exactly how I could illustrate this idea of a tunnel made of eyes in a different enough way. Like you suggest, I will explore the idea more and see what I can come up with.

I've re-worked it some, does anyone think this might be usable or does it look like a so-so version of something cooler? Any critique or comments appreciated, thanks!:)
