I am experimenting with a particular idea that involves making rubbings from various monuments and memorial stones (with permission). I've used varieties of graphite powder, charcoals, and pastel type mediums and am trying all kinds of paper and fabric bases but I'm still searching for the right ones.
In terms of preserving a piece made in this way (ie: sealing and framing the piece for maximum longevity), what do you guys think the most suitable medium and method might be?
This is my first post but having been a casual reader of the forum for a while now, I know there is some valuable expertise to draw from here.

Hello and welcome Seven :)

Have you tried synthetic rice paper? There is a special kind but I forget what it's called...sorry....all I know is it's pretty hardy...your art store should know what it's called. As far as rubbing have you tried 'big' crayons, the ones used by children. I've heard these work pretty good..especially if you take the paper off and use them sideways...helps to make long strokes. :)
