: hi all, what does a art site need to be successful?

I'm happy to find this site. I enjoy nature photography and am trying to get a few fans and hopefully a few sales on-line.

My site looks pretty good, it has some of my photos, a profile, a contact form. I want to keep it simple and personal but also want it to easily offer viewers to stay connected with me and an easy option for anyone interested in purchasing.

I hope to get it set up with nothing left out and be able to go enjoy a day photographing and just be able to easily post new images to my site for fans that want to follow.

I appreciate any suggestions for making my site effective.

Thank you,
Ian

Wordpress works....I like the red & its quite fast & responsive I like it.
categories on the home page would be good but thats just a personal pref of mine.
you need to set up a shop with Buy it now links & consider water marking your work or using low resolution images.

Thank you for your feedback, will add the categories. Do you recommend a shop platform and also other than printing and shipping myself do you recommend a print fulfill service for fulfilling orders? I'm looking at one that costs $7 to print a 8x10 and $3.05 shipping so $10.05 total and my profit is whatever I markup. I'm thinking $2 and hopefully people buy. Not worried about getting rich to start, just about getting fans and customers. Even if I could maybe get $10 or $20 extra a month would be nice. I just love taking pictures. Today I went to a state forest and just enjoyed it. It'd be nice to spend days like today and have the opportunity to post new photos and get a few sales.

Thank you for your help!

Ian

the printing service sounds expensive. that price is for printing a photo on what exactly? just a canvas? also you need to charge more for yourself to not dump your own product, expand and sustain. charge 3 times the cost. i dont know about taxes etc in your country but in germany thats a general rule sort of. you will have to invest in better equippment sooner or later too.

i also dont recommend getting an own shop right of the batch since it will be costly and hard to compete with dedicated marketing platforms like etsy etc. sell your products with these sites first to get a start without having to spend money first.

id also suggest to get some postcards maybe. small things with your images and attend to local fares so you can directly talk with people explaining your situation and motivation will make your potential customers more benevolent than anonymous via internet.

also if you are looking for commission work you could aim for event photography like on marriages, festivals etc.

if you have an ebay or paypal account you can create linked buttons like the 1 below to put on your site....
