I am new when it comes to sketching but it is what I enjoy and I mean that I am new to it because I never generally spend a lot of time and effort into sketching something. I really just do it for fun and I would do it more but I'm not good at it so this is something I'm currently working on.

This is from a game called dota 2, me and a friend are having a sort of friendly contest on drawing a character from this game and this is who I'm working on her name in the game is Drow Ranger.
My drawing: http://puu.sh/2XNxE.jpg
The one I am basing it on: http://browse.deviantart.com/art/Drow-Ranger-Dota-2-283802450

So any advice to help me improve is greatly appreciated. Also this drawing is in the middle of drawing her hood so onyl half of it is done. I am also bad at drawing faces so I decided to start with what I'm worst at :) .

@ Doc Chanda: that's some good stuff!

@ xkellettx: Well, let's consider your approach:

I never generally spend a lot of time and effort into sketching something.

Okay, now let's consider your objective:

me and a friend are having a sort of friendly contest on drawing a character from this game

Relax! I'm assuming 'friendly' means there's nothing at stake, right? 1. Finish your drawing 2. Pick a 'winner' 3. Go play your game.

Thanks both of you for your help I will take your advice into account. Can you give me any advice on the hood because that is really the only thing I don't like. Also with what Chanda said I did see it needed more shading but I wasn't sure how to accomplish it w/o making it too dark.
P.S. I'll see what i can do with the chin and cheekbone.
Thanks again.

Well, I think you may specifically mean that kind braided fur lining? Well, I'd ignore trying to copy it verbatum and just make it up as you go section by section....looks like 3 tufts of fur at a time; otherwise there's no discernable/repetitive pattern.
