Hi all,

I've been keeping an eye out for a blog which posts the works of current painters and artists, but I'm struggling to find the ideal blog. I'm looking specifically for up and coming talent. There seems to be a big gap whereby there are commercial blogs and on the other hand blogs of amateur works. Sadly there doesn't seem to be much in-between.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I know amateur's who have more expert skills than professionals.
I hate the words amateur & professional, most think pro means BETTER and amateur means unskilled when actually pro just means your paid or sponsored & amateur means you don't even get paid

Yeah, fair point, except I didn't really mean it like that. By amateur I meant amateurish. If I used the word professional I would tend to be referring to people who have had training or are genuinely very good at what they're doing. If I was a brilliant artist who didn't get paid for my work I wouldn't call myself amateur because that would suggest unskilled. Right?

thats the point I was making amateur means someone who paints for other reasons than financial benefit and professional means your paid eg you just said "If I used the word professional I would tend to be referring to people who have had training or are genuinely very good at what they're doing" which implicates if your a pro your better than someone who's not pro, it's not true because the 2 aren't opposites, are they?
like I choose to not get paid, I paint for free because I'm insane lol and I know the worth of my work, I'm not a professional.

In the literal sense amateur means has taken no payment for their particular talent and professional means they have taken payment.

That being said, most people nowadays don't know (or care) the literal meaning and have decided whatever sounds good to them.

So it comes down in modern times to, how it's taken depends on with whom you speak.

Artstation maybe? It's mostly digital art (it's closely tied with the games industry) but there definitely are traditional painters there. It's not a blog, though, more comparable in concept to Deviant-Art, with one difference: People put pretty much anything on DeviantArt, no matter the skill, the time put into the piece or the subject of the piece. You only put your work on ArtStation if you know it's the best that you can do. So if you're mostly interested in seeing the works of unknown yet very much skilled artists, it' worth checking out.
