: Crash! Burn! Sorry, Jackie...

I took a couple of weeks off and decided to go with a drawing of Jackie Kennedy, wearing her enigmatic Coco Chanel-designed pink dress and hat that she wore a lot, including, sadly, on November 22, 1963.

My plan was to draw her in ink, and to then apply pink watercolor only to the dress and cap. Should have made for a stunning work.

What actually happened, though, was that I mangled her face horribly. It kept getting darker and darker as I tried applying more and more shadow to areas that really didn't have that much to start with. I decided to leave it and come back later.

When I did, I was horrified by the monster on my table. So I quickly dispatched it. What I probably should have done was use the expensive mixed media 18" x 24" sheet of paper's back side, but I couldn't bear seeing that face again.

Art Walk is in three weeks. No more art until it's over, then I may take another stab at lovely Jackie.

In the meantime, I scored a big pile of 5x5 mats with 3x3 openings at JC Penney's photography department! They are wrapped in removable cellophane. I'm planting on making a pile of mini-prints and selling them for five bucks a throw at the Art Walk. That'll keep me busy until then.
