We generally all give our paintings/drawings/photos a name. Do any of you write the name on your piece on the piece itself? I was thinking about starting that, but can't decide.

I haven't been. I do create a certificate of authenticity and include it, I tape it to the back of framed or matted pieces. We bought a nice looking oil painting this weekend at a flea market by an unknown artist, and she had written the name of the painting ("Alberta Roses") on the picture, complete with quotation marks. I honestly had never seen that done before, to my knowledge.

That being said, I have been known to scribble historical notations on some of my ink works. My wife wishes I wouldn't. ;-)

I named my elephant Jerry!!!

I don't know...I would be afraid it might deter a sale. What if the prospective buyer didn't like the name?

I've never been in the habit of naming my paintings.

I guess I won't put any titles on mine either. I was just wondering what was customary. All my work is done on stretched canvas so what I do is sign my name and date on the back. I was kind of thinking about putting the title there, but I think I'll skip it.

I sign and date the back too.
