We just have a few minor details left....

We're proud to announce that the new site look and feel has been completed for ArtistForum.com! Our designers and software engineers have been hard at work on this for several months. It's designed to modernize the site, make it easier to use, and to make it more attractive to new members and guests that visit.

The forum software we use, vBulletin, by default is not designed to be friendly to the eyes or to look modern. We went down to the nuts and bolts of the forum software and templates, and have done a ground up approach. There are several things you will notice now that the new design is live.

1) The site should be significantly faster.

We have applied every modern technique to speed up page load and tested with all modern browsers. We want the forum to be extremely fast and easy to use.

2) The site will work much better in mobile and tablet views

We've started applying responsive design, and have designed and tested against android and iPhone devices, Android tablets, and iPads. If you are sitting at your desk or on your couch, or just on your phone, the site will work much better than it did before, and load fast. We are still working on improving the experience even further in the months to come, but we wanted to launch this as quickly as we could.

3) The homepage is bright, crisp and clean.

We wanted the first page users saw to look beautiful, so that when a new guest arrives and is debating whether to join ArtistForum.com, they see a beautiful doorway, and they walk right in. As a forum member you can choose to use the new design (which is on by default) or you can go back to the old design. We ask that you give it a chance and see if you like it. Like anything new, it will be unfamiliar at first, but we suspect that the speed difference will make you want to use this new one. If you do decide to switch back, the link is at the bottom left of each forum page, you pull down and select the theme called "ArtistForum.com Classic".

4) New users will be able to register with Facebook

5) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.
- Click disable and save.

6) Drag and Drop image uploader

We hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions on the design, please let us know, feedback is appreciated.

If there are any issues you see. Post them up here and we will get them worked out. (Once we are finished.)

Thanks,

- Your ArtistForum.com Team

I am an old man. I was comfortable with the way it was. I can appreciate your hard work but I like the way it was. I don't like it at all now.

You don't have to use it if you don't like it.

In the lower left hand side of the community, there is a drop down menu that says "ArtistForum.com (Full)"

Click on the arrow so it drops down to other choices and select, "ArtistForum.com (Classic)".

Looks more professional.

Most important to me is that is is a responsive design so it adjust much better to all the different devices and screen sizes that our members and guest use to visit the site.

Thank you for giving us the classic option, going there now! Way too much white for my taste, other than that I could get used to it.

Definitely a more modern look. Maybe too much white though? A neutral color as the background surrounding the posted art makes more sense than the old color, which affects color perception, but this much white seems a little sterile.

The navigation is really nice. I like the icons next to the forum sections. :)

Am I the only one who is required to sign in every 5th or 6th visit?

I had to sign in twice and I could have sworn I checked the "remember me" when I logged on each time.

I started a new thread in Oil Painting and could not figure out how to add a picture of the painting when I started it. I wound up editing the post after I posted it and added the picture.

I have checked the "remember me" box 4 times now. Haven't tried to load anything yet.

Is so coool! I love it :3
Butttt I'm having problems with the brigth u.u when there is too much sun light in the room it's hard to read and it makes my eyes hurt, too much white then >.< But if I close the window and "turn off" the sun xD then all my troubles are gone (?

I am finding typing posts to be tediously slow. It just stops and then starts again....grrrrr. Sometimes I have to click on the submit button multiple times before it takes. Maybe it's just my computer. It's not all the time...but a lot of the times.

They were working on the backend this morning.

If it happens again, please let me know.

I wanted to get used to the new look before giving an opinion. So far, aside from logins not being saved, I like the links but I'm not a fan of the white. I also miss the old header with the paints and brushes and other art utensils. I can get over that.

That may have been related to them doing some final touches on the front page. Let me know if the login issue continues.

I haven't had any issues in typing but images in posts take a lot longer to load than on the old design.

I am going to test this real quick, but can you explain to me which method you use to upload images? Are you posting from your computer or from your phone?

The reason I am asking is because it is nearly instant for me, so I need to troubleshoot what might be causing this for you.

I just loaded this page on my android phone and my PC. On both they loaded instantly.

BTW, I love the drag and drop attachments. So much easier and fast.

I meant viewing pictures that others have posted, they take longer to load than on the old design. In fact the whole forum takes longer to load. I know it's my internet because its not that fast. As much as I love the new look I'm going back to the classic view.

I'm thinking the slowness of the new web site format has to do with the videos adds that automatically play on the site now.

Liz
02-12-2016, 11:16 AM
Video ads?! Do they not realize that some people (like me) are on limited bandwidth and do not want to be subjected to videos playing automatically when they enter a site? Is there a way to make the classic view stick? Whenever I come here it reverts back to the new design.

There should be auto play video ads. If that happens, please try to get a link for me.

I don't see any video ads. I don't see any ads at all. What ads are you seeing?

TerryCurley
02-13-2016, 09:31 AM
Are you kidding me guys? There is a square on the right that keeps flashing different moving ads. Right now it's an ad for Sling. Earlier it was for Subway. A couple of times it was actually a video like I was watching a commercial on TV. Above there is ads that often move. On the bottom there are ads, a rectangle like above . Under the Recent Discussion section on the right there is another square with ads that occasionally are moving.

Is it really just me?

I've been amazed that I never see any. Hope I didn't jinx myself by saying it.

I do see one at the bottom on my cell phone.

I will have to check it on my phone. So far I've just been using my iPad. I have no clue how to use the drag and drop feature though. :p

On my tablet I only get the strip under the menu.

Liz
02-13-2016, 07:37 PM
I think the ads are targeted so not everyone is seeing the same thing. Sure hope they don't start using pop up ads.

I'm betting the difference is that you all are using a mobile device and I'm on a laptop.

I haven't been able to get the drag and drop pictures to work.

TerryCurley
02-13-2016, 10:34 PM
I'm on my cell now, and yes there is only the one ad at the bottom.

I just checked it out on my phone, and I don't think I like it. Since I haven't had a laptop in months, I'll just stick to my iPad.
