:photographe:I am considering a new camera. I need something with good zoom but won't break the bank. Not necessarily a DSLR but more than a point and shoot. Any suggestions?

I have the canon powershot sx30IS. Under $400 when I bought it a few years ago. It has amazing zoom and manual settings. Not being a professional photographer, this is plenty enough camera for me. I once took a photo of the moon with it set to auto and I could see details of the craters. I haven't been able to duplicate that one so I may have got lucky. Close up shots of flowers and things are very good as well.

One last thing. I don't have or have ever owned anything as nice as this so I have nothing to compare it with. I have no regrets! Good luck on your search.

BTW, I saw this on Ebay used for a pittance.

Determine what kind of photography you are planning to shoot with your DSLR.
Buy the lens or lenses that will allow you to capture the best photos possible of that photographic genre.
Choose the DSLR that is compatible with the lens you plan to purchase.

Thank you Smith15, I decided on the Nikon p610. It has been perfect for my needs. You will see some of the results here under photography.
