What time of the day do you prefer to paint? I usually paint during the day in natural light (preferably when it's sunny).

Well I don't paint but I used to draw whenever the mood struck and it didn't really matter what time of day it was. Now that my life has changed so much and become so busy I am pretty much stuck doing my artwork during the 45 minutes I have free on my work lunch hour.

My preference is when it's bright outside and I open the windows and let all the light in, but in honesty I paint all times of the day.

Chanda95, hard to believe your drawings were made in 45 minute increments, they have so much detail in them it looks like you've had all the time in the world to make them! You must be a pro at focusing on what you are doing and blocking out everything around you.

Terry do you use any specific type of lighting when natural light is not enough? I find that I can't seem to get the colors right if I paint in the evening. Doing black and white art such as pen and ink on the other hand makes no difference to me, day or evening.

Hmm when I feel motivated :P

I don't care if its day or midnight, I just draw when my brain is screaming "Start drawing something pleaaaasee!!!"

I just turn on all the lights in the room. Two wall fixtures, one over head and a stand up lamp next to my desk. Some people I know use one of those clip on display lights over the painting but I need to get a new easel to do that. I'm due for a new one anyway. Had this one 18 months and it was the cheapest I could find not knowing if I would keep up with painting or not at the time. I'm much looser with my colors than most people. It's only when I do a portrait that it is most important and honestly I don't think I will be doing any more portraits for a long time.

for me it's usually the late evening
also I have insomnia so alot of the time I can be up from 12 am to 4 am or more working on something I do usually feel inspired in the night and not the day and it's quiter during the night so there have been some nights where I have been really tired but I stayed up quite a while drawing instead ^^
and I have been working more on digital art so then when it's dark is okay but when I would draw or paint traditionally then I have a room I can go to with very good lighting in it

I usually make my digital art in the evenings too. I actually now spend more time on digital art than "real" painting but I'm trying to change that around and get to painting more with real paint.

No fixed time. love drawing and painting and start doing my work in free time. I think professionals take care about time, light, brightness, day light etc to make their paintings more realistic.

I tend to draw/paint in the evening. It relaxes me
