I was sealing this totally dry painting and the gold Leaf that I applied with one of those gold leaf markers smeared! That is not good!

Should I have applied Fixative on the Gold Leaf before using the sealant?

Wow Terry, that bites! Can you save it?

As you know, I am zero help with oil paints, I just hope you can fix it.

Not that familiar with Goldleaf.. But if it was mine.. I would either..

a) touch up around the goldleaf
b) (More likely) scrape off the GL.. repaint that small area.. reapply the GL once dry.. Put Fixative on the GL (check if there's some special fixative you need) and then seal it again.

Fixing it is not a problem. I can redo the area, but I have another picture with goldleaf that I will be sealing in a few days and would love to know how to keep it from smearing. I'm going to try spraying it with fixative first but I sure would like to know if someone had this problem before and what they did about it not fix it but have it not happen.
