Good morning fellow artists. Notice I consider myself an artist now.:vs_smirk: This place is making me gain confidence. :vs_karate:It feels good.

It's Sunday - as if you didn't already know. We are going into another heat wave -- the noisy AC is running. :vs_frown: I have to turn the TV so loud when the AC is on, I hate the noise but I can't handle it when it's too hot.

I'm going to start on my lilac vase picture later today, but first I'm doing a small 8x10 of a bunch of lilacs to practice. I was playing with the background to use. Check this out. I love it, but I'm not sure it will work with the Lilacs or not.

Well I did a quick and dirty 8x10 of a bunch of lilacs and I have the general idea now of the picture I'm going to paint next. I'm actually happy with the quicky. I know it doesn't have a focal point, and yes the leaves are all wrong, and yes the colors are a bit muddy, but it accomplished a couple of things. It showed me that yes I can paint lilacs and yes the colorful background will work.

So that's how I spent the last couple of hours. Time for lunch, then to get started on the bigger painting

Bugged. I posted a reply and it didn't go..so I will make this one short..

Had an extremely busy day today..exhausted.

Terry..love the lilacs! The only thing I would suggest is not putting flowers on the same color spectrum. The purple lilacs at the top right seem to just fade into the purple background. I think if you put the lilacs on background colors that are different..yet still complementary..your painting would pop just a little bit more. Overall though for a quick one that is just absolutely lovely!

Thanks for pointing that out Chanda. In the bigger painting the background has different colors from what the Lilacs will be so I'm safe on that point.

You say the leaves are wrong and the colors are muddy. I say this is a refreshing break from your usual flowers. Leaning a bit toward a impressionistic stly. You've always been a fine artist but now with this piece it seems your expanding your style a bit. The colors are wonderful like they are. The blue darting out of middle of the purple adds a nice contrast and a focal point for the viewer to draw his eye to. Since there really isn't any true blue flowers in nature or very rare, the fact that you used this color really shows some creativity and has produced a stunning result. The way you laid down your base color from the edges to the center allowing them to become part of the image adds depth and body to this piece. You kept to your normal theme but did it a little different this time, nice job.

WOW Eddie, thank you for that critique. I agree it is different and I really enjoyed doing it.

Hope you are feeling better Eddie. Heat stroke can be very serious. It's like the cells of your body are being cooked and can't function. People die from heat stroke.
