: Woohh sketchbook thread!

It's really late and I'm tired and groggy, but I'm making this thing either way.

So ehm, I don't have anything recent to post here yet, but tomorrow I'm gonna scan the stuff I made in my sketchbook last week while in Germany. Which was really cool. There was wildlife and stuff. And pretty forests. And one very dodgy Italian.

Expect forest paths. Many of them.

I think I'm just going to put all sketchy stuff here from now on, all nicely tucked in one thread.

Now I'm going to bed. To be continued.

First up are the scans from my field sketchbook. Part of it is from the holiday in Germany (mostly the nature ones and the ones with Blomberg and Hameln written near it) and the rest are from my trip to my own city today.
It has a few really great buildings and that reminded me of the fact that you don't always have to travel far for some great things to draw. Inspiration is right around the corner.

And now for the normal sketchbook. This also has some Germany drawings in it, but these are either from the reference pictures I took with my cellphone or the ones my mum took, not actually on the spot. But hey, drawing inside a nice and comfy caravan is also nice ^^

Two new sketches. I felt tired and shitty (five hours of cleaning work yesterday, plus biking from and to work, 26 km in total) so I decided a good way to feel better was to grab my bike, go somewhere and draw stuff.
So I did.

I like both sketches, but I like the barn one a little more than the road one. Looks like you had a fun day sketching and riding.

I had to look up how much 26km was -- holly molly that is over 16 miles! Wish we all used one system of measurement, but believe it or not I'm begining to learn a little metric talking with you folks.

FanKi; Thank you! ^^

@Terry; It's my favorite as well. And I definitely had, it really made me feel a lot better.

Yeah, it's quite a distance ^^ One system would be ideal, but for me it's the same; I'm starting to get used to all sorts of systems

Tomorrow I'm going to post the results from today, since I was at an island today, but right now I'm a tad sleepy :') It was great fun, though!

Sheeeet, haven't updated this one in a long time. However, I now have a new sketchbook, I got at the open day of an art school I want to go to. I have no scans yet, but they will be there soon. The book got a little bit damaged, so I decorated it, to cover that up:
http://puu.sh/o3yM6/b8ab7e7452.png
It's a webcam picture, so of course it turned out to be illegible, but it says 'The tiny book of stuff and things'.

Quick 'preview' of some of the sketches, also horrid quality;

http://puu.sh/o2ohz/24aa709150.png
Saw the lone ranger a few days back. The movie didn't quite blow me away (it seemed to have a very hard time figuring out wether it wanted to be so dark and gritty the characters might as well have been eating gravel for breakfast or wether it wanted to be funny and airy and 'oh look at Johnny Depp, isn't that man quirky and silly?') but it was still fun entertainment and I absolutely loved the way many scenes were shot. So I looked up some stills and off I went.

Susan Mulno

Nice stuff. Glad I am not the only one who names their book. Mine is called, "The Good the Bad and the Ugly"

How long have you been drawing/painting Inge?

SuddenLife
04-03-2016, 11:26 AM
Thanks! And that name made me laugh out loud :') One of my other books is named 'dangerous stuff'.

Good question. For as long as I can remember, but I think I really got serious near the end of high school.

Susan Mulno

"Dangerous Stuff"! That's great!

I drew a lot as a child, even had private art instruction when I was 12. Then life happened and I stopped (for 30 years!). I often wonder how far I would be if I hadn't put it down?

You do wonderful work.

Well, let's end this on a reflective note, shall we?
When flipping through these pages I noticed something in my anatomy studies. And it's that after a few pages the lines become clearer. I've become a little bit more confident in jotting down the basics of a pose and a little less afraid of mucking it up. It's a fun little change to be aware of. Once I started sketching the horses, I noticed my overall sketching approach had improved. And all that in roughly two weeks.
I also feel that with every pose I draw my understanding of the muscles improves. Which I think is pretty neat.
