Another first.

These are little plastic animals I purchased to practice "life" drawing instead of from a photo.
Mom's a little cartoon-ish, but I think junior came out ok.

Cool....good job Susan.

What a great idea to get a little statue to draw from. My grandkids are always getting those little animals, what a great idea to draw them....of course my grandkids are mostly into dinosaurs...that would be an interesting painting.

Originally I actually thought I had come up with this "brilliant" idea all ny myself, but after I bought these at WalMart, I noticed that Hobby Lobby and Michael's have them in the art section. My shining moment was short lived! :)

Knick-knacks and stuffed animals also make good models.

Nice work! That was one of the things we were taught to do in an art class I took many moons ago..I have drawings of toothbrushes and pencils and you name it. I hated that class. It does improve your skills though and I highly recommend it. I like your second one the best. You haven't done any outlining and made them more realistic.

Thanks for the encouragement, it does help.

I like to draw just about anything I see as time allows. Yesterday at work was so slow I drew lots of toys, stuffed animals, potted plants, etc, all on paper towels with a pen. Where there's a will there's a way!

The first elephants were only a rough sketch.
On the second elephants I did try to use tones instead of lines just to prove to myself I could.
That is one thing I need to keep working on, I get so caught up in getting the details that I end up forgetting not to outline them.

Practice, practice, practice!

When I was a kid, I drew superheroes from comic books. I would imagine that they were seen from another angle and draw them from that point of reference too. I would draw planes, automobiles, cannons and other things. I would rotate them in my mind and draw them from the other side. I would draw them shiny new and broken rusty old.

I will try that too Just. I am always willing to tackle different things. Thanks for the idea! :)

Nice work, Sue, great idea to sketch bits and pieces like that. I drive my wife mad sketching bits around the house (especially in the kitchen at inappropriate times!)

I took art in Junior High, and I remember we had to keep a sketch book, and draw something in it each week. Well, my mom collected owls, plus she had a bunch of those funky perfume bottles from Avon, so my sketchbook was full of both. My teacher was quite amused. :p
