Thank you for the kind words. I have never considered myself an artist, can't draw worth a darn, have never gotten into painting, I don't have a photographer's eye, so I really am shocked still that this has come naturally to me. Especially since I have monocular vision and don't see in 3D. Who'd a thunk it?!

My first two bust completed. Stained with iron oxide in varying concentrations and mounted on cherry wood slabs. Since the photo was taken, the wood has been finished with Danish Oil. I am calling the horses finished in this manner the "Earth Horse Series"

Some greenware waiting for firing in the electric kiln. We need the thunderstorms to pass so we don't risk a power outage whilst the kiln is firing.

I set a goal of 2 new busts this week and yesterday I got 4 done. 1 replication of a smaller piece, 1 itty bitty bust, a holstein cow, and a little experimental piece. Today I am going to try to get a few more done. Love long weekends!

Bad-boy-horse (?)

I love this one >.<

Hahaha, "bad boy horse". This is actually a Marwari. A breed from India that have curled ear tips.

Wuuu, so strange. Still bad-boy-horse for me (?
I haven't heard about them before. They are cool. (By the way, you did it great in the sculpture, it really looks like the real one)

Your style is refining. Good. Look into the subtle shapes that form the nose to eyes area. Sensitize just a bit there & smooth out some. Thinner ears, especially toward the tips. Enhance the eyes with subtlety & lids.
Show the tools you're using. We might help there. Most sculptors make many of their tools.

Thank you for the critique! These ones were still too wet to get much more refining done. I am planning on going back over them tonight after work, they should be rigid enough now.
As for tools, I use a variety of wood and metal ribs and kidneys, metal hoops and these things:

My bull is getting shipped off to Washington D.C. for professional judging! Got through the first round of employee judging and was one of 100 that will be displayed in the USDA building for a year.
I think my ego just grew 100 sizes. Time to deflate it a bit!

Got the raku busts fired and am pretty happy with the results. Considering rubbing India ink into one to test if it makes the crazing pop better.

My weekend plan was going to be the Four Horses of the Apocalypse, but I was in too cheery of a mood to do such a macabre subject. But I am still taken with the idea od multiple horses in 1 bust. So I did the 3 sisters, Faith, Hope, and Charity. They are 3 mountains in the Oregon Cascade Range with a really neat mythology behind them (and my favorite wilderness in which to hike). So I reimagined the mountains as mares and came up with this:

22953

22961

I need to work on Faith (North Sister, on the right). Well, all of them need some tweaking, but Faith is reading more masculine than feminine to me right now.

The first two really stand out for me. Work is good quality and marketable. I would put the highest prices on those.
