: what up with all the crying?

I've done it again. I gave an honest critique of a member's work when they have asked. They posted some work and asked what do we think and said all criticism is welcome. I pointed out some of the problems and some of what was done well. I even gave complements. They were deserved. The member cried and sent me a rant and spam.

I know that I am tough on the art that is done without talent but only when the poster asks for opinions. I'm not going to give false praise. You can get that from your family. I'm glad to see talent and I do give praise and admiration.

The world of political correctness is creating a generation that don't want to hear anything but how great they are.

I guess receiving that kind of criticism is always tough. Artists need to understand that some people will like their works of art (link removed), while others will not.

The level of disdain for me as a person shown by some of the members here tells me that there is no room for the truth here.

More times than not, people posting pictures and asking for critiques don't want to hear the truth. They are fishing for compliments regardless of their level of talent. They have been told by friends of family that their art is good, and they are seeking confirmation for more neutral sources.

I find that the skill level of most are amateurish at best. Often times I have to ask myself, did this person even put in any effort or did they just throw something on paper just to have something to post. I don't often offer any critiques unless the picture shows some genuine ability and effort on the artist's part. I feel my honest critiques of the others would be a little too honest and therefore just prefer not to say anything at all.

I am not by any means saying I'm great. I've been drawing, painting, and dabbling in other mediums for a very long time and to this day I am constantly learning new things and growing as an "artist" and it pisses me off to see some people's half-assed approach towards art. But that's just me.
