I have been sculpting for about 6 months using air-dry clay. How can I make my sculptures more realistic? (I have attached a couple examples)
Hi Pogonavitt, They look great to me. I'm not a sculptor but I have taken portrait sculpting classes and absolutely loved them. I am a realistic painter, and I love applying whatever I learnt from sculpting to painting, and vice versa.
The best tip i can share is to learn anatomy and measure, measure, measure ...you'll be surprised how easy portrait making can become (whether sculpting or painting), once we learn to measure accurately.- lines, angles and relationships between those.
I would say that the cheek bone area looks quite underdeveloped so I would recommend working on that area more. The face also seems a little narrow and the chin quite small.
Are you working from photograph or life?
