Its hard to know where to start.
As with most people, photography has been an accessory to my life for 70 years now. It's only now I am realising how important an accessory it has been. Like the spoken word, a photograph can inform, describe, explain, influence, create change, and simply give us joy. But it is different to any other art form. The photo must have a basis in reality. No matter how we 'see' the image, we do ask ourselves the question "what is it?".
The question I now ask myself is: "what does it do for us?"
This requires a different approach. I need to step sideways from 'what I see' to 'what I perceive'.
