Daily Chat - March 1 2015

Good Morning. Today my grandkids go home and I get to go back to my painting.

I've already started on my next Portrait. This one is of Jayna (not previously shown) I want to try doing the undercoating like suggested by Piers (I think it was him/her). I saw a video that suggested undercoating with acrylic (like that idea because it dries fast) and only undercoating the shaded areas of the face. In the video he uses Raw Siena (that's a color) and I happen to have some.

I've done a little on the painting already so I'm not really sure if it's smart to undercoat the parts I haven't done and not the ones I have done but I know I can't put acrylic over the piece I've already done.

So it will be a learning experience -- as is all my paintings.

So looking forward to chatting with whoever feels like it. Doesn't have to be about art "this is 'Off Topic'"

Terry, could you delete my previous post? The one titled Feb. 29? I tried to fix it but it wouldn't allow me to delete or edit..sigh

I LOVE the color you have chosen for the background on your painting, it's beautiful. Looking forward to this one.

I am up..and not running on all cylinders obviously. A few more hours of sleep wouldn't hurt. Not going to happen, everybody is up and running. Making biscuits and gravy for breakfast and then hopefully have a mellow day..or as mellow as it gets around here.

Now for that second cup of coffee.

I don't know how to delete posts other than my own and I can't even do that if it is the post that creates a new thread. My only power is to ban someone within 30 days of them signing up and that deletes all their posts automatically.

So I'm afraid Feb 29, 2015 will just have to stay. I saw a post on Facebook that said that FB will be closed Feb 29, 30 and 31st this year. LOL

As a moderator you have the ability to delete posts. I did it all the time. It has been a while so without looking at it I couldn't give you detailed instructions but just giving you a heads up for future posts that you can do it. It's ok though I am fine with it staying.

Well I'm trying to figure out how it's done. If I can do it, I want to know how. I wrote a note to the admin asking how and I'll see about researching more myself. As you know this job did not come with instructions.

I know that you have the option of moving, editing and deleting posts and threads and I want to say it is either at the bottom of the thread or you can go into that person's user cp and do it from there. Good luck! I will try to help where I can.

Thank You, I appreciate the help.

I'm learning some little things today that will be helpful. I just discovered that when you click on the little > next to the name of the person that posted on the thread last it will jump you to the last post. I like that, some threads are very long.

I also learned how to avoid some of the problems I'm having with my portraits. Remember Chanda how you said you can see some lines on my portraits, well those paint lines are from trying to hide the carbon when putting the picture on the canvas. I found out if I use a red pencil instead of carbon or graphite the lines will not be visible when painting over them. That's not true with carbon or graphite the lines show through no matter what you do...I got this from reading a blog by Ben Lustenhouwer...he's a great portrait artist. Can't wait to try it on my next portrait. Of course it will the one after Jayna, Jayna's lines are already on the canvas.
