You can't do it if you have windows installed...only if you have Linux. All my computer freak friends have Linux since ever(so I was used to it already)... lol and when I bought my new computer I just said I want it with Linux.I know I have ubuntu...and it just updates by itself.Pretty easy to use and I have no problems ever...even runs faster than my windows computers/devices in the house. I dunno why are you afraid to use it...just install it(it's free as far as I know) or go to a computer shop to install it 4 you.

Liz Yeah I know you can run both windows and linux on the same computer, it's called duel boot and that's what I want but I don't know how. Is that how you have your computer set up? Terry, brave is something I'm not that's for sure. I've been dreaming of having linux on my computer for years but the closest I came is to run it from a dvd on an old laptop. The other day I got enough nerve to change settings in the bios so I can try it with my win 8.1 laptop. But when I couldn't get back to windows I panicked and now I'm scared of trying again.

dickhutchings I must be stupid. I've tried Linux a couple of times and never really understood it.

I've been playing around with a light version of linux that runs off a cd, problem is that windows 8 and up have this thing called "secure boot" that prevents other operating systems from loading. I disabled it and got linux to boot into my laptop but then was disappointed when I discovered that windows won't load with "secure boot" disabled. So I'm back to square one. I would like to dump windows completely but I need it for a couple of graphics programs I use.

Welcome to the new moderator!
I use Linux for many many years...it's just great. Btw if you install linux you can have windows too(dunno how's called but it let's you have windows).

TerryCurley Liz you are brave, I've gotten real skittish about messing with the operating systems of my PC.

Hi folks,
Join with me in welcoming our bran new moderator Dickhutchings.

I still have my granddaughter for two days and being with her is taking up all my attention, I can't wait to get back to painting. Tomorrow I'm taking the two oldest granddaughters to the skating rink again.

So what is everybody up to?
