Surreal colored pencil work

Hello all,

I'm posting here for the first time. I had been at wetcanvas years ago but my for some reason my login is no longer working. I started with colored pencil about 10 years ago and began with photorealistic portraiture for pets and people. I found it restrictive and exhilarating at the same time. There is nothing quite like the feeling of hitting a texture or color combination spot on but it is also prohibits creativity with subject matter - there is only one acceptable outcome when doing a portrait especially when it's human. So I moved to surrealism with the application of the same photorealistic color application. Overall I'm pleased with the results. Please feel free to comment and critique. Thanks for looking.

These look pretty interesting. The coloring is really good. Is it all exclusively colored pencils? Do you have a gallery online with other work? Also, what size are these two pieces?

Narrated 'Ubaada bin As-Saamit رضى الله عنه: I heard Allah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم saying, "The first thing created by Allah was the pen. He said to it, 'Write!' It said, 'O Lord! What should I write?' Allah Said, 'Write down the destiny of every thing until the Final Hour (as per my Will).'" [Ahmad]

Good Morning,

Thanks for the feedback and the compliment on the colors. Using the pencils for layers and then blending the layer together to create a new effect is what caused me to focus on colored pencils. I love that you can get a painterly look without giving up the precision of pencil work. The first one is 11 x 14 and the second is 8 x 10 The portrait I'm uploading is 11 x 14. All work is done exclusively with prisma's and on stonehenge.

The sizes are in cm, in, mm...?

As an artist, though I do not support or condone figural representation, the portrait of the dog is well rendered, and I am not going to overlook the obvious artistic skill involved.

I wonder what else you can come up with within the real of surreal and abstract art.

Thanks for the feedback. The measurements are in inches. I continue to work on portraits for commissions but my own personal style is leaning more and more into the surreal.
