Symbolism

Hi.

I have been thinking about one thing without coming to any good conclusion. A skull ? symbolizes death, everyone knows what a rose symbolizes, but how do does one symbolize despair in a picture?

Anyone?

Written on a phone that apparently felt like messing the text up.

My painting of despair. It's more literal than symbolic. I'm a literal type person. I would symbolize despair with a grave site.

Thank you.

The reason I am asking is that I want a tattoo that isn't all too obvious. And I want it a bit more "symboly".
A grave would symbolize death more than despair to me. And that I already have the skull for.
I know it's hard or I would have known how to do it. Trying to reason with someone besides myself.

The ultimate despair for me would be an impenetrable wall (or chasm) with God on one side and me on the other.

Grateful to Jesus for everything!

Like not being able to get back into the Garden of Eden, right?

How would you illustrate that in something suitable for a tattoo with the "less is more" idea?

Honestly... I wouldn't. If I were a Preacher (which I happen to be BTW).. I would ask the person why they were in despair.. and show them the way out.. and then probably give them the Chinese logo for Hope.

Not judging.. just saying....You are what you think after all.

I am not a preacher of any church, but one can still preach. :-)
And I still want a symbol for despair. The eye gave me some ideas, but I would still like to see if anyone else have any ideas.
After all we have an idea about hell even though none of us wants to go there. ;-)
