Do Plastic Sleeves Prevent Smearing During Shipping?

Hi all. I've been hired to do my first commission (Super excited, I'll post a picture of it when I'm done on another thread). It's a colored pencil and I don't want it to smear during shipping. I've never shipped my art before, so I'm not entirely sure what works and what doesn't. I'll be shipping it in flat cardboard mailer, so there isn't much room for it to move around or anything, but could it still smear? I found some plastic sleeves I can buy on Amazon- should I buy those and put the colored pencil in it first and then in the mailer? I would fold and tape the sleeve so that it fits snugly around the piece ( I'm buying the sleeves in a larger size so that I can use them for larger pieces as well). If anyone's had any experience with this, please let me know! I need to order the sleeves now so they'll be here by the time I'm finished with the piece so I can ship it.

Thanks!
Kat

There is a sealant that can be sprayed on it. I use a sealant on every drawing I finish. There's a sealant made especially for colored pencils.

Thanks! Is there a certain brand you'd recommend? I've read that some fixatives darken the color of the art piece, and I'd really rather stay away from that Also, should I still purchase sleeves to protect the artwork further, or do you think it would be fine with just a fixative and cardboard mailer?

Spectra fix is what I use for colored pencils. The darkening is negligible when applied properly. You can practice until you get the hang of it.
