This seems like an odd request, but I’m looking for someone to work on book illustrations for a series of novels. I have completed my first manuscript and I am in the final stages of edits. I feel that the book should go to the publishers by February.
I'm a new author and I wanted to give someone a chance to work with me on this project from the ground floor. I’ve met with other people who were interested, but real life came into play and they had to quit.
About my book:
Zell Rozen is a 26 year old researcher. He is a “classically trained” magician, but is more of a researcher. Most adventure stories are about fighting and killing monsters. Zell takes on a more naturalist point of view and feels the things that goes bump in the night should not be killed, but studied. He’s a diplomat, scientist, and an anthropologist whose compassion for the creatures he studies flows deep. His goal is to collect the histories, mythologies, and social structures of his subjects.
I find this a unique perspective as a writer, because there is a level of exploration that goes beyond fairies and elves living in the woods.
In the first story arc “Heritage of the Djinn” Zell comes across Ah’Mahn. A member of a clan of Djinn who were captured and encased in various objects and set to work building the Temple of Solomon. Each book will focus on Zell and Ah’Mahn looking for his fellow clan-mates. Each Djinn object is powerful, entire religious faiths will rise up around these objects as they were scattered around the world over time.
I have outlined for the Heritage of the Djinn arc around 20 books (maybe more maybe less, who knows)
I also plan on short story anthologies, a website, and various other media eventually (maybe even a few graphic novels)
One of the things I wanted to add was nature sketches of the things he sees during the chapters. As a researcher, he will document things. These sketches and artwork I plan on marketing and have prints sold in order to increase revenue of the book.
The type of look I would like to obtain are like the Darwin nature drawings. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...s_Figure_6.png http://www.nhm.ac.uk/natureplus/serv..._015956_IA.jpg
So, the real question is why should you work with me?
Well, I’m going to publish this. If a big publisher wants to pick it up, that’s fine, but until then, I plan on soliciting a few smaller publishers who will ensure there’s a physical copy of the book with an ISBN. This will give you, as an artist, a novel you can add to your resume.
As, I am a poor author, soliciting poor artists, I want to work out a deal with the prints sold. I think we can work out a deal where the majority of the revenue of the prints go to the artist. I would like at some point in the future to set up a purchase plan to buy the rights to the art, but until then, I would want the artist to keep the rights of the work, but have a waver signed for me to use for the one book.
Your work will establish the look and feel of the characters in the story, so the readers will think of your drawings when they read the book! This is a chance to hone your talents and have them focused on an objective and see your work in print.
And, of course we can get signed copies of the books.
So, message me with your interest and I’ll give you a few chapters to read and see if it’s something you’d like to work on. There are 13 chapters, and I was hoping for at least 1-3 small images per chapter (about 3x3in) and a larger portrait/sketch to introduce characters.
I’m also interested in someone to design the book cover as well. The book title is “The Onyx Ring” I pictured a table with various old tools and spell books and a simple ring with a black stone in the middle with the Djinn’s seal glowing from the center)
I've attached a link one of the stories involving my Hero. It's perfect for the holidays! This will be included in an anthology that takes place in the Rozen Universe. Happy Holidays! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing
