Curiosity Question

Has anybody here ever sold anything on Etsy or Ebay? I've sold to online friends on FB but never one of these selling sites and as of yesterday I'm giving it a shot. But I get the impression the chance of selling is kind of like winning the lottery because of the volume of paintings being offered on these sites.

So I've found... Not worth the time. Butthen I've not found ANY online sales to be of any value. People see it & buy or don't but they wanna walk away with it.

You expect to sell after one day on Etsy?Doubt that even well known artists would sell after a couple of days on Etsy or any other online site.

No Victoria I don't expect to sell in one day...in fact I honestly don't expect to sell these at all for the prices I posted, and I'm thinking that I will not renew the postings when they expire because I love these paintings and will not part with them for less. I was just curious about how good of a venue Etsy is. So far I haven't found one artist that sold anything on it. That's covering two artist forums, this one and Wet Canvas.

Don't feel sorry @TerryCurley I for example am just starting to understand how and what you should do in order to get more views and more "fans".I've heared artists that are much older than I am and still can't sell anything online.Problem is that if you sell in your community(not online that is) you might have a couple of other artists as competition and you know what to expect but online is different. No matter how good you are there will be 10000 of other artists from allover that are better than you and sell cheaper than you and am not talking about Etsy...am talking internet in general and not only english based sites.Last year I've found a site for Chinese artists and they were so amazingly talented but sold veeery cheap.Internet is hard.

I belong to a forum on DailyStrength and have made some really good friends there. We actually have a retreat once a year and get together. It has been in different parts of the country each time. Anyway the marjority of them are also on facebook and they are the ladies that I have sold the most to, the group is about 300 strong but only about 30 of us that are really active participants and attend the retreats and are really a close knit group. I just shipped off the Sunset painting yesterday and I'm waiting for the Daisy one to dry so I can ship that. Both are going to friends from this group, and last week I shipped off the Winter Storm with the Barn.

Today a friend I use to work with bought one of my paintings on Etsy. Does it count if you know the person? Any way, I learned a few things. The money is in my Etsy account but will not be available to transfer to my bank account for 3 business days. I found out that PayPal works the same way. No big deal, I just didn't know...I never read all those terms and conditions.

I have only big paintings on Etsy and it turns out it cost me $17.80 to mail it. I list as free shipping.

Given this plus the fact that I really don't want to part with the two that are currently on Etsy I upped the price to a ridiculous amount. I added $100 to one and $200 to the other. It was an experiment and now it's a bigger experiment.
