Default Photo Software Question

I recently bought Photoshop 3. It was cheap, about 25 bucks. But every time I call the program up I get a damn comerical about their other products. Which bums me out. If it was free, I wouldn't mind, but it wasn't and I don't like to be subjected to that every time I use it. Anyways, I was talking to a photographer and was told to dump photoshop and get something called 'Light-room'. Are any of you familiar with this program? I've only spent, maybe 16 hours using the Photoshop 3, so I'm not really totally comfortable with my skill of knowledge of the program. Yet, I just don't like the feel of it.

I like photography, but my main purpose is family photo's and photo's to do my pencil sketches with. So, my needs aren't that great for a real professional program. Yet, I'd like to dump Photoshop. Can anyone suggest another which may be more to my liking? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sean

Wish I could help. I used Photoshop once but hated it. I know a lot of people love it though.

Default Photoshop

Well, to start out...Lightroom and Photoshop are two completely different programs. You can do everything in photoshop plus sooooooo, so much more than you can in Lightroom. Lightroom is expensive, but not as expensive as PS. Lightroom is mainly used for quick adjustments on the fly. Heavy edits need to be done in photoshop. Either way, I would suggest you find some tutorials online, maybe youtube, to figure out the basics. even better, take a class at your local community college...It is well worth the information. It is IMPOSSIBLE to find out everything there is to learn about photoshop on your own.

Hope that helps

Taylor
