Default Little cowboy - WIP - Oil Pastel

It still has a LONG way to go...bear with me - I haven't done oil pastels since AT LEAST 1994. A little rusty with them but REALLY enjoying them! Teeth are next

I think it's coming along great! I tried oil pastels once and got very frustrated with them because I had no idea what I was doing with them. So, if you don't mind my asking, what colors have you used to get the skin tone?

Thank you! LOL - to be honest I was afraid to use them because it has been sooo long since I have done anything in color let alone use a pastel! I thought about using colored pencils but the call of the pastel was too strong. I figured I would never really know unless I tried. Colors - I am using pale orange, brown, pink, white and tidbits of blue...I am limited. My oil pastel set only has 12 colors so I am using what I have.

Thanks! A lot of people seem to like it but I have also gotten a few comments that my pencil is better.

You are very good at pencil. You show much promise in color. This last up date is really good! I do know the challenge of oil pastels. You have what it takes to be a big time portrait artist. You will need color also. It will take lots of practice. By the way, what a good looking little cowboy you have. I had a little blonde boy once. As we say here "he's all growed up now"

Thanks Don! I actually got the pastels blended a lot better and am so very pleased with the end result.

Portraits are a huge challenge for me. I am tackling them because I know I need to get better. The oil pastels was just for fun and it has been! For the first time in years I am looking at something I drew in color and it just seems to "pop" to me. Maybe because I am not used to seeing my work in color.

Thanks for the kind words on my son. He's a good boy. Has his moments but overall we are pretty proud of him.

This will be the last update until I get it done!

I am impressed. It looks great. If I may suggest that you add every minute detail that you can capture to his eyes. I think this painting is well on its way to singing.
