I have drawn and painted off and on since I was 5 years old. There are a lot of artist of varying degrees and a lot of information on the net. I doubt your work is amateurish. I find that most of the artist are very complimentry and encouraging in your work and if you ask for critiques you will get them in the nicest ways. In my opinion the value of art is one in the doing of it and two in the feeling it gives another person. Like the painting "resting" I love that because it reminds me of my husband who is always in blue jeans and boots. At times I look at other pieces of art and even turn my head sideways and say.. I dont get it.. but others think it is marvelous. So, who am I to judge. I am self taught and have many many things to learn. I read everything I can on the net in WetCanvas and in various sites to learn what I can. For instance. I had no idea until recently about reflective light. My drawings lack, what I now see as the midtones. I can reproduce something if the composition is there, but I have yet to learn about how to put a composition together. I am just learning a layer color. There is one painting in WetCanvas in the Colored Pencil forum that is not done and has 14 layers so far. It's an amazing piece. Dont be discouraged, we all do things differently and the bottom line is are you enjoying what you are doing.. if so.. keep it up.. with time comes skill. Though I have been asked to do art for others, I rarely do, most of my stuff I do I give away or keep for our house. Anyway, you just keep on trucking. In time it will come together and remember there is a wealth of information on the net. |
